I’M GOING TO HONG KONG!!

I’M GOING TO HONG KONG!!
In 5 weeks, I will be on my way to my trek to Hong Kong. I will be staying out of Hong Kong making trips to Macau, Thailand and (hopefully) Mainland China.

This will definitely be my most adventurous trip to date. As much research and reading that I have done, I don’t think I can prepare myself for what I am going to encounter and either way its going to be massive culture shock.

In all my reading, I have found some out interesting things. I had no idea that Hong Kong is on the tropic of cancer, making it on the same level as Mexico City, Hawaii and Bahamas. I never saw HK as a tropical destination and didn’t realize how intense the heat can be in the summer. HK, like Macau is considered a Special Administrative Region of China (SAR), meaning its remains its own country but under China’s rule. Up until recently HK was a British Colony, British influence is present until this day. HK has the highest cell phone usage in the world and the lowest car usage in the world, despite that last fact, HK’s roads remain to be extremely crowded. English and Cantonese are official languages of HK. It is the financial and economic powerhouse of Asia in a crazy medley of western and eastern cultures. Macau is a former Portuguese colony of China. It’s a fusion of Mediterranean and Asian culture on a tiny island where cars don’t exist. Portuguese and Cantonese are two official languages of the island. As for Mainland China and Thailand, I am currently doing research on the 2 countries. I have no apprehensiveness about HK or Macau. When I started to read about Mainland China and being a tourist there, I realized that I have to watch my back. When I started to read about Thailand, I nearly shat my pants with fear, especially once I came across the Canada’s Foreign Affairs Report on Thailand:
http://www.voyage.gc.ca/dest/report-en.asp?country=290000 . I nearly had a heart attack reading it, its probably not the brightest idea for me to go there. Despite all the warnings and the $400 vaccines I’m going to have to get, I am still going, I am just going to pray a lot more to make sure that I come back in one piece. So if you don’t see any posts after February 10, 2004 here, you know why!
