Not so summer time reading....

And what I mean by 'not so summer' is that the books pertain more to one's development as a leader rather than personal development or fun, fluffy reading (which I also do from time to time to give my overthinking brain a break).  Nevertheless both are great books that have been recommended to me by colleagues and I think anyone in a leadership or management role would benefit from reading them.  This book  I really enjoyed; Creating Magic by Lee Cockerell. Several of my colleagues have read it and recommended it.  Lee shares his strategies and lessons that he has learned over the years from failing time and time again in different jobs in the hospitality industry.  He then talks about how he's been able to apply those lessons at Disney.  I enjoyed the audio book as it's read by him and he has a particular southern twang, shows how much I miss the south.  Lee shares some very important lessons but the biggest take away at the end of the day is that it's all about the people. It's the people that work for you that make you successful and you need to take good care of them.  Doing what I do every day, this didn't come as a surprise to me at all. However, every day I watch in horror how this has not become apparent to other people in management roles.  I strongly suggest this book for all leadership roles whether seasoned or new.

This book on the other hand focuses on energy in the work place. Being the hippie that  I am I was able to identify to this management book on another level as well.  The book basically talks about putting out the kind of energy that you need to get back and getting people either on your 'bus' or off your 'bus' to get where you want to get to. Although not mentioned in the book it of course falls under the Law of Attraction. What you put out in the world is what you get back. The universe makes sure of that. The more I read, whether it's management, spiritual or what not, the more I find that all of these theories and laws are one and the same.  A solid management book that uses metaphors rather than life lessons, a good read for anyone who is into The Secret or Law of Attraction.

What a great book.....

Just finished this amazing book one of my besties recommended to me. "You are a bad ass; how to stop doubting your greatness and start living an awesome life" by Jen Sincero.  Let me tell you how this book could not have come to me at a more appropriate time (everything happens for a reason, the universe does work in mysterious ways).

Slowly  I started doing again all the things that I love again; working out, meditating, reading and eating clean.  I was mastering my thoughts, my mind, my anxiety and it felt like I was becoming like myself again. Still here and there I would stumble into the darkness of my mind and work myself up full of anxiety.  But progress is progress.  As I am here trying to glue myself back together after a crappy contract this book just landed in my lap. It was just what I needed.  I read the book from cover to cover, re-read all the quotes, mulled over the concepts and reflected. Some concepts were known to me and others I really needed to work on. But this book just completed it all for me. Jen Sincero must have written this book just for me.

I must stop doubting myself, I must stop worrying about my future, I must stop over thinking and over analyzing, I must stop assuming things and just be mindful and present and in the now.  I want everyone I know to read this book!

Now all I have to do is manifest and visualize my life exactly how I want it to be.  I must keep Jen's words and concepts close to me as I pack for my solo Euro Trip and my Mom yammers in my ear about terrorism and how Europe is about to be at war (not exactly sure with whom).  But I refuse to live my life in fear. I will live my life exactly how I want to live it. I will make my dreams happen one by one and no one and nothing will stop me. I will trust in the Universe and all will happen in due time.

I an Natalia, I am once again Happy and I will make all my dreams come true.

I'm going to use my energies to develop myself, to expand my heart out to others, to achieve enlightenment for the benefit of all beings. I am going to have kind thoughts towards others. I am not going to get angry or think badly about others. I am going to benefit others as much as I can.

Karma Cleanse

A friend of mine is having challenges in her life and she believes that she has bad karma. I don't, I think she is just seeing things in a different light then I am. I believe positive thinking takes practice just like playing the piano or sports. I found this interesting article and I am making her complete all the 12 steps in hopes of re-righting her way of thinking.

Karma Cleanse from Waking Times article by Renata Palmo

When we hear the word karma, we often associate it with “bad karma” or the act of justice being served. However, karma in Sanskrit means action. Every action leads to another reaction, creating a never-ending circle of actions and reactions—which could be negative or positive. Every so often, we may think its time to karma cleanse and reset this cycle on a positive note. Here are 12 simple ways to karma cleanse:
  1. Make a list of all the things you have to be grateful for right now. Write them down and place it some place where you can see it easily—like your sacred space—to remind you when the going gets tough.
  2. Write a letter of forgiveness to someone who has hurt you. It is not necessary to send it. The act of forgiveness takes a load off of you and lets you live without resentment, which just makes one bitter. This also helps break karmic ties because anger, as well as love, is an energy that binds.
  3. Write a letter asking for forgiveness from someone you have hurt. This one is also not necessary to send.
  4. Practice random acts of kindness without expecting reciprocation or compensation in return. This lets your ego have a much-needed break from the suffering of expectations.
  5. Check the intentions behind your actions. Are you seeking some kind of reward and/or boost for your ego? Is it really just all about you and what you want or need? Be truthful with yourself and others.
  6. Self-study and reflection, daily moments of non-action and meditation.
  7. Add beauty and joy in some way, wherever you go, without needing recognition. Live beauty. Live joy, passionately.  It also lets your hard-working ego and mind have a well-deserved break.
  8. Don’t worry about what other people think or say about your. It doesn’t have much to do with you anyway. Live to impress yourself, not others.
  9. Always try to put yourself in someone else’s shoes and see things from another angle. This develops empathy and compassion but not pity.
  10. Don’t judge others unless you have walked a while in their shoes and even then don’t judge, because we will never know someone else’s entire story.
  11. If someone is hurting you, let them know in a neutral manner. Explain how they are causing you distress. Have open channels of communication that is not threatening to either side. If they don´t care to or are not able to stop and walk away, they are just acting out the pain they have inside because they need a way to release it. You are not obligated to continue the cycle of pain and you have every right to protect yourself from toxic behavior and energy. Sometimes the best response is to just remove yourself from the situation. Do not feed into the negative energy exchanges and the cycle will break.
  12. Don´t hurt anyone or anything. We are all one family here on our planet. Our action is what we experience. We are all tiny reflections of the Earth, offering and contributing of our small selves to the whole and truly divine picture
